Pet Cremation...The Process
As with human cremation, the deceased pet is placed in the cremation chamber. As a result of intense heat and flames, the temperature reaches 1500 - 1600 degrees Fahrenheit. Bone fragments are the only substance not consumed by the heat, with the exception of metals.
Once the remains have been cremated they are removed from the chamber. Every effort is made to remove all particles but please understand there may be a small amount of ashes left. This could result in an incidental commingling of ashes from another cremation. After the cremated remains have been removed from the chamber, any metals not cremated will be removed and disposed of in a non-recoverable manner.
Bone fragments are then further reduced so that uniformed particles exist.
Cremated remains are based on bone structure, and are usually white in color. The crematory will provide an urn or receptacle to place the cremated remains in. Urns both simple and decorative can also be purchased from the crematory, funeral home, or online. Please contact our office at (765)742-0396 for ordering information.
Communal Cremation is where there are multiple pets that are cremated at the same time. The ashes are spread in Pets Remembered Memorial Gardens located in Spring Vale Cemetery (2580 Schuyler Ave., Lafayette, IN 47905).
Private Cremation is where one pet is cremated at a time. Cremated remains are placed in an urn and returned to their family.
